Designer Talla Skogmo Discusses Ellipse Motif and Color Choices

Talla Skogmo, ASID, Designer of Distinction at Engler Skogmo Interior Design (englerskogmo.com) in Edina, MN, talks about her unique design and radiant color scheme choices that make up the Ellipse on Excelsior.
“The back drop colors are very natural, classic and forever,” explains Talla. “Deep chocolate, warm grey concrete floors mixed with recycled glass accents, and natural maple wood tones. These are colors you can live with forever.”
Talla reveals that the furniture fabric colors are much more electric – bright oranges, deep turquoises, and water blues, accented by deep espresso wood tones and brushed metal finishes. “I wanted furniture to be the ‘wow’ factor,” she explains, “using simple classic linens that pop with amazing patterns, textures and colors.”
When it comes to the designs Talla has exclusively chosen for the Ellipse, she mentions that her favorite feature is by far the lobby floor made of concrete and recycled glass. “It’s fantastic,” she says,” but I also love that the apartment layouts are so unique. Almost half of the units have a wine bar approach to the kitchen layout, or a large glass sliding door that converts traditional bedrooms to general living. Many elements that exist in high end residential living were considered, such as large walk-in closets, and large double bowl vanities.”
Talla says she has truly enjoyed designing the Ellipse, and believes wholeheartedly in the development. “I love this project,” she explains. “It bridges a first ring suburb to the city, and anchors the east end of St. Louis Park. The location is fantastic, the units are well thought-out. The club room is incredibly flexible for all types of occasions, or simple resident living. And, the rooftop deck is perfect for sunning and catching the view of the lakes, Uptown and the city.”
